- Additional reviews of academics:
- UMass Boston has great academic programs with dedicated students. Everyone who is here wants to be here. The level of education is what one makes of it. If you put in the time and are dedicated to an education from UMass Boston it can be comparable to the numerous private schools in the Boston area. The professors are accessible and there is a friendly non-competitive atmosphere that is refreshing to experience.
- Due to our school being a commuter campus there tends to be slightly less dedication to what's best for the students at time. Nonetheless, there are some really great faculty here.
- UMass Boston is obsessed with english and knows no boundaries for teaching about alienating subjects, through forcing you to tell your personal feelings about it. The programs are good but I am not comfortable with their methods.

- Additional reviews of students:
- The students at UMass Boston are dedicated above all else. Each student has their own individual goals and is willing to work towards that goal. Each goal is unique. This diversity of goals is personified by the diversity of the student body. There is no one thought belief or idea that dominates throughout the campus. Each student is friendly and non-competitive which lends itself to a refreshingly wholesome experience.
- The overall student body is nice. People generally tend to interact less if they aren't in a student organization or familiar with the other. Of course, this is precisely due to the fact that we are a commuter school. So many times people come for classes then go home with little interaction. Yet, if you really form friendships here they are solid because no one has to interact here unless they please to...
- They are very initiative and political, but they put too much emphasis on politics and the physical (race, gender issues, culture). The student body is friendly but i don't think they connect in a comfortable way.
- 100% said faculty members are Friendly.
- 92% said faculty members are Helpful.
- 15% said faculty members are Arrogant.
- 8% said faculty members are Condescending.
- 15% said faculty members are Self-Absorbed.
- 23% said faculty members are Unhelpful.
- Additional reviews of faculty:
- The faculty is super accessible. Most are willing to meet either during or outside of their regular office hours.
- The faculty at UMass Boston is among the most educated faculty in the United States and specifically the Boston area. The reason for this is because UMass Boston allows for the extensive academic freedom that elite faculty crave. UMB is not bound by the rigid tradition that so many Boston area schools are. Also this lack of tradition and perceived prestige encourages faculty to be approachable.
- Faculty are nore delightful than the students by far.
- Interesting. Many have their own lives. Some teach at UMB because they enjoy it, others teach at UMB because they couldn't get tenure at Harvard or some teach at both; all of which we (students) have been told. Mainly, only the honor students are treated very nicely at time for our academic "intellect"... So, some faculty care, and others are simply doing a job until the next best thing pops up...
- I found that most of my english teachers are somewhat imposing about their ideas. And although most of the teachers try to be helpful, they tend to give me the most useless advise. The faculty is quite nice despite it. Putting up with it is the hardest part.

- Additional reviews of town:
- You meet a lot of great people at UMass Boston but in terms of nightlife you are going to have to go into the city.
- Boston is simply the education capital of the United States and UMass Boston is the only public university in Boston. Nightlife, restaurants and plenty of entertainment is at your fingertips from the UMass Boston campus. All of the amenities of Boston are readily accessible via the MBTA.
- Everything is Boston depends on where you live. Of course, our school was moved from downtown into Dorchester which is not the best neighborhood. It upsets my Mum because she says she sent me to university for a more refined education in addition to the one I had upon attending. Not to be exposed to other sort of lifestyles. Anyhow, I did receive a recreational culture here, just a different sort than I expected as an out-of-state student, but I have no regrets in terms of friendships I've made, etc. Boston is an exciting city, and housing is generally okay as long as one is on the lease.
- UMass Boston is almost an island in the middle of the atlantic ocean. It is not "in" boston. There is no real scenery, no art. UMass is just a deteriorating mass of concrete. During the fall to the early spring, it can be extremely cold because it is right next to the ocean. During the summer, it is extremely bright because there is little shade. My professor told me that UMass is literally built on a dump. There is no real social life in UMass.

- Additional reviews of campus life:
- A lot of friendly people. The campus maintenance staff gets an A for the immaculate bathrooms.
- I don't think anyone on campus knows what they are doing. The administration keeps me running in circles, so I can barely get anything done. And although the school is diverse, it only seems to bring people together because of it, not inspite of it. The majority of the activities are for political causes or reasons, not really for general fun and interest. It feels difficult to interact without getting into some debate or a fight for some cause.
