Firefighters connect water hoses to a truck as they prepare to put out a small fire Saturday morning that started on the roof of the University of Alaska Southeast National Science Research Lab at 10107 Bentwood Place. According to Capital City Fire and Rescue, the roof caught fire as construction workers were making repairs.

University Receives $170,000 for Fisheries Management Program (Capital City Weekly)

KETCHIKAN - The Fisheries Technology degree program at the University of Alaska Southeast Ketchikan has been awarded $170,000 by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Cooperative State Research, Education, and Extension Service (CSREES) grant for enhancing the Fisheries Technology program's curriculum, outreach to secondary schools and aquatic farm education and research partnerships.

Einar Often, the Nanook skier who sacrificed his own chances at an NCAA berth so that his teammate, Ray Sabo could qualify, was awarded the GNAC’s Sportsmanship award.
